Brendan Larkin honoured by Bord na nOg
Brendan Larkin was the recipient of an award from Bórd na nOg last week at the St. Finbarr’s Hurling & Football Club pavilion to mark his outstanding contribution to the G.A.A. in Cork and Bórd na nOg in particular during the past half century.
The highlights of Brendan’s playing career include his role in the 1961 Cork minor all-Ireland football winning team and the Douglas team that won the Junior county football championship the following year. His successes as a selector and administrator at club and inter county levels are well known. However, arguably his most influential legacy will be as author of the 1987 publication “The History of Douglas G.A.A.” during which Brendan succeeded in accounting for the conception, progression and maturation of a village club against the backdrop of social change in twentieth century Ireland.
The Hurling & Football Club committee extend congratulations to Brendan on his award and best wishes as he prepares the Douglas Junior “B” hurlers and footballers for finals to be played during the coming weeks.
