Under 21 football challenge victory for Douglas
As the countdown to the new season begins, the Douglas under 21 footballers played Bishopstown in a challenge match in Moneygourney last Saturday afternoon. The match benefited both sides and was played in a competitive spirit facilitated by a referee that was prepared to allow the game flow as much as possible. Douglas forged an early lead and eventually held on to win on a scoreline of 0-07 to 0-5. Cormac Collins and Olan Bermingham scored two points a piece while Ed Finn, Richard Martin and Conor Lucey also contributed points. A highlight for Douglas was the impressive performance of goal keeper Bryan McPolin and his defenders to start the campaign with a clean sheet.
As the countdown to the new season begins, conditioning training for 17-21 year olds has been a feature of Wednesday nights in the sports hall since Christmas. The response from the players has been fantastic with between 35 and 40 lads participating each night. In particular, the under 21 selectors are trying hard to identify players who fall into the 19-21 age group but who may have opted out of football during the past couple of years. Lads in this age category who may not have played for a couple of years are more than welcome. Training on Wednesday nights in the sports hall begins at 6.45pm.
