Douglas Junior "A" hurlers suffer c'ship defeat

08/06/2009: Douglas 1-07 Glen Rovers 0-26


Glen Rovers deserve credit for being in red ho form at Ballinlough on Monday night to beat Douglas in the first round of the Junior "A" hurling championship. This was a repeat of last years final with the Glen again triumphant.


Douglas' goal arrived before half time and was scored by Fionnán O'Sullivan. However, this did not stop the Glen from holding a commanding seven points interval lead. By the final whistle the Glen had more than justified their status as favourites to retain the title.

Under 12's beaten in football semi-final

The U12 Footballers great run in the county championship came to a disappointing end at Ballincollig on Saturday when they lost to Carrigaline after a closely fought match.


The Douglas lad’s fought hard all through but things didn’t go their way on the day.

Douglas were drawn against Doheny’s in the next round of the Senior Football championship while Youghal are the opposition in the Premier Intermediate hurling championship.

Under 12 Footballers advance to county semi final

The U12 Footballers qualified for the county championship semi final with a comfortable victory over Beara at a sun drenched Inchigeelagh on Monday evening.


A powerful performance from the Douglas team throughout the field ensured victory, the Beara lads fought hard all through, but were overwhelmed by the excellent teamwork and passing movements of the Douglas team.

Under 12 Footballers Win City Championship

The U12 Footballers won the City Championship final beating St. Michaels at Passage on Sunday evening.


Douglas played the first half with a strong wind to their backs and they made full use of it, hitting some fine points with Shane Kingston kicking a couple of beauties, Dara Baldwin capped a fine display with a goal as Douglas continued to press forward, St. Michael’s fought hard in defence and brought an extra defender back from the forwards to try and stem the tide.

Kelleher Shield defeat for Douglas

After an entertaining contest Nemo Rangers got the better of Douglas in the Kelleher Shield game played on Thursday evening in Douglas. Despite being short several regulars Nemo Rangers forged an early lead which they maintained to half time. From a Douglas perspective, Stephen Bermingham's goal was the highlight of the opening period.

Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship


Douglas came up trumps at the second time of asking at Cloughduv on Friday evening at Cloughduv in the first round replay of the Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship. Douglas kept faith with the starting fifteen from the drawn encounter but were forced into a change when wing back Richard Harris was forced off injured mid way through the first half.
