Junior "B" hurlers' good form continues

The Junior B hurlers defeated Belgooly 1-16 to 1-9. Douglas started in whirlwind fashion scoring 0-4 without reply. The South East team got the next three scores. Douglas finished strongly to lead 0-10 to 0-5 at the break. Playing with the wind Belgooly got two early points.

Douglas dug deep and scored some excellent points to fashion a very positive result. Brian Kennealy is showing great form as is newcomer Tom Ryan. One very positive aspect of the game was the spread of the scores, with no great dependency on any particular player.

Senior footballers bow out of championship

Doheny's advanced to the next round of the senior football championship with a one point victory over Douglas at Cloughduv on Sunday afternoon.

It was a disappointing contest as both sides struggled to dominate in greasy conditions but Dohenys just about deserved the victory. First half points from Fearghal O'Sullivan, Shane McCarthy and Neil Heffernan had Douglas level at the break but it was not enough given that the strong breeze favoured Dohenys for the second half.

Douglas & Youghal end level in hurling championship

19/06/2009: Douglas 2-08 v Youghal 2-08 (Premier Intermediate Hurling Champonship)

On 28th June 2008 these two sides served up a thrilling high scoring contest in Carrigtwohill which ended on a scoreline of 3-13 to 2-16. This years clash was a more tense affair which left the spectators at the Lisgoold venue waiting until the final moments for an outbreak of drama to rival last years encounter.

Junior "B" Hurlers advance in C'ship

14/06/09: Douglas 4-14 St. Vincents 0-4 (Junior “B” Hurling Championship)

Douglas displayed very impress form to defeat St. Vincents and get their championship campaign off to a great start in Ballinure last Sunday morning. This year John O’Keeffe and Brendan Larkin pulled off a major coup by bringing in Pat Harrington to administer the coaching and this has clearly paid dividends. The Douglas players hurled with great confidence and their first touch was of a standard that made a mockery of their Junior “B” status.

Douglas host annual Michael Quirke tournament

On Saturday 13th June Douglas G.A.A. Club host the under 11 hurling tournament held annually in memory of the late Michael Quirke. During the 1970’s and 1980’s Michael was held in high esteem as a loyal club man for the work conducted by him on behalf of the street leagues and under-age divisions. In 1985 Michael was involved in the Douglas preparations for the Feile na nOg competition which was being hosted by Cork clubs that year, but tragically he passed away shortly before it was due to commence.
