Big weekend ahead for Intermediate hurlers and under 16 footballers
Every section of Douglas Hurling & Football Club has experienced success this year and as the year reaches a climax there still is plenty silverware to play for. This Saturday Douglas will contest the final of the premier under 16 county football final after a convincing win over Nemo Rangers in the semi-final on a scoreline of 4-12 to 0-05. The Douglas team are a sound bunch and harbour many talents including Martin Barry, Eoin Dolan, Alan Cadogan and Josh Khra.
Douglas hurlers advance in munster championship
01/11/2009: Douglas 1-23 Kilmoyley 1-12
(Munster Intermediate Hurling Championship):
For those of you who were not at the game at Páirc uí Rinn, do not let the scoreline mislead you. This was far from one-way traffic. In fact, the game went all the way to extra-time in a contest that very nearly saw Douglas exit the munster championship at the first hurdle. Kilmoyley deserve a lot of credit. They are largely responsible for keeping hurling alive in Kerry and gave Douglas the fright of their lives and deservedly led by three points at the interval (1-04 to 0-04).
Hurler complete double as footballers prepare for Aussies
Intermediate Hurling League Final:
27/10/2009: Douglas 3-10 Kilworth 1-14
Last night at Páirc uí Rinn, the Douglas hurlers completed the league and championship double when they defeated a dogged Kilworth side. This was Douglas’ first outing since their championship triumph and they were surprisingly off the pace as Kilworth secured a two point interval lead. Douglas’ first half scores were acquired by Richard Murphy (point), James Moylan (three points) and Mark Harrington goaled from a penalty after Mark Collins was brought down.
Douglas Junior Hurlers in Craobh Rua Cracker
St. Finbarrs 3-8 Douglas 2-10 (after extra-time)
This turned out to be a titanic struggle. St Finbarrs were the more accomplished in the opening half. Their striking was crisper, they were excellent in the basics –the art of hooking. The blues led by 1-3 to 0-3 at the break. Douglas had a goal disallowed which was a questionable decision. The Douglas mentors rang the changes at the break.

The genesis for Douglas’ transformation from contenders to champions in a few short months was founded on a desire to catapult the club back to senior ranks and once again rub shoulders with the elite of Cork hurling.

The senior footballers defeated Glenville in the Kelleher Shield on a scoreline of 0-16 to 1-06. Highlights were outstanding performances by Brian T. O’Callaghan and corner back Albert Clarke. League win for Intermediate hurlers
The Junior hurlers had mixed results this week with the Junior “A”’s beaten by Nemo Rangers and the Junior “B”’s defeating Ballinure. It is unknown whether the recent decision by the Junior “B” selectors to play John Clarke as a full forward was forced or tactical but it has certainly proved inspired and he has shown great goal scoring form.
The Intermediate hurlers played Carrigaline in the league on Thursday night at Cloughduv and won on a scoreline of 3-16 to 0-17. Douglas were missing a few players from the championship team that started against Ballincollig.
